The LoveLocalJobs Foundation C.I.C are delivering the second of three virtual mentoring sessions in April and May, once again bringing together local business volunteers and school students as part of an initiative to boost aspirations and help raise future employability for local young people.
Supported by 42 business volunteers from Sussex Police, Legal & General, First Central, Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust and PwC who are sharing insights on their roles, and the skills and personal qualities that potential employees need.
The mentoring sessions are part of a six interaction programme for 90 secondary school students taking place during the Spring and Summer term with a mixture of online events, inspirational deliveries in schools and virtual mentoring sessions.
Given the impact that the Covid-19 pandemic has had on the wellbeing of local young people, the LoveLocalJobs Foundation C.I.C and its amazing network of supporters and partner schools all felt that despite the many challenges it was essential to pull together and to deliver the programme for this academic year.

The LoveLocalJobs Foundation have worked tirelessly to get the programme delivered and are flexing the format as restrictions allow. Sussex Police remain proud to be supporting it. An officer who’s involved as a guide stated it’s been ‘A really exciting experience where I’ve had the opportunity to speak to some enthusiastic young adults about their lives, some barriers they’ve had and discuss ways in which they can overcome them’.“
Curriculum Development Manager, Tim Clarke for Varndean School says: “Varndean students are participating in this inspiring programme that teaches students key life skills and helps them to develop career aspirations. The programme includes a series of workshops which enable students to reflect on their own behaviour and choices. Throughout the programme, students receive mentoring from a business guide, who provides additional support. This is a fantastic programme that I would recommend to all students at my school.”
