Business volunteers from leading employers in Sussex have been supporting the LoveLocalJobs Foundation and their delivery of inspirational programmes designed to boost the confidence and aspirations of young people at local secondary schools.
Legal and General are supporting by mentoring students from Hove Park school. The mentoring sessions are part of a six interaction programme for 90 secondary school students taking place during the Spring and Summer term with a mixture of online events, inspirational deliveries in schools and virtual mentoring sessions.
The pandemic has been a challenging time for all and in particular has impacted on the wellbeing of young people, our next generation of talent. Alongside this for adults, different challenges have been experienced, as employees have become to feel more disconnected from the workplace. Over the years the LoveLocalJobs Foundation have helped to bridge the gap between education and the world of work and are incredibly proud to be able to continue providing this much needed support during such a difficult period. Feedback from business guides from our programmes this year demonstrate the mutual impact for both them and the young people they are supporting as a result of the mentoring that takes place. We are so pleased to facilitate this for young people and the amazing individuals from these organisations that help to drive the economies in our local communities.

Project Manager, Susannah Botting said: “I am so pleased I got involved with the programme. The LoveLocalJobs Foundation who set up the programme have done such an excellent job to ensure it still went ahead even in the pandemic. Each time I met with the students I thought, “what on earth am I going to say to them today?” – but we always went on to have a packed half hour session, discussing how it is getting back to school and making space for them to think about what their next steps are – and reassure them that if they don’t know, that’s OK too.”
Business Change Manager, Kelly Williams added: “The time I have spent on the programme has been enlightening and inspiring. Getting to work alongside so many like-minded adults to try and encourage young people to be their best selves has been an absolute pleasure and a definite highlight that I will always remember. The young people we have had the pleasure of getting to know virtually this year are some of the most resilient people I have met. Given all of the uncertainty surrounding the past year of their school and social lives due to Covid19, they have continued to surprise me with their positivity and eagerness to learn how to better prepare themselves for their futures out in the world of work. I am so happy I took the opportunity to get involved and I will definitely do so again. The LoveLocalJobs Foundation have helped us every step of the way and are doing an amazing job of helping young people have a better and more productive future.”
The programme has been supported by 42 business volunteers from Sussex Police, Legal & General, First Central, Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust and PwC who are sharing insights on their roles, and the skills and personal qualities that potential employees need.
